Our story

The Slideguide Story

From a dark corner of a 1922 family home to a patented, fully UK-produced product. Read how Slideguide came to be.

Firstly, welcome, and thank you for taking the time to read my story.

My journey began in 2021, in a dark corner of our 1922 family home. I was building a walk-in wardrobe for my wife and me when, faced with the challenge of building new against old, I encountered a problem familiar to anyone who has worked in period properties: gaps that are simply not symmetrical. After many failed attempts and a lot of non-recyclable waste, I set about designing a guide to help me accurately cut PIR, making the job easier, cleaner, and cheaper.

Slideguide was born.

One of the worst things about cutting PIR, for anyone, is cutting straight. The material naturally encourages the blade to wander while cutting through, resulting in miscuts, wedge cuts, and a whole load of waste that can only be incinerated or sent to landfill.

Slideguide was designed to eliminate blade deviation at the furthest point of the cut, stopping the miscuts, wedge cuts, and waste in their tracks.

Designing the guide to sit on the underside of the board meant there would never be a limit to the depth of cut. The only limit is how long your saw blade is.

Patent granted

8th January 2025

After completing a design that worked, I set out to get Slideguide patented and trademarked. After what seemed like a lifetime, on 8th January 2025, I finally received my granted patent. What a feeling: designing something that had never been done before and getting it protected. We then proceeded to trademark Slideguide and began sourcing partners to help bring it into production.

Now, 16 months on, we have a host of support behind us, both local and international, spanning manufacturing to innovation bodies. Together, we have been able to develop Slideguide further, refining it into a market-ready product that tradesmen and DIYers can enjoy using.

We have made sure that every aspect of Slideguide's makeup comes from a renewable source, from the guide itself to the packaging it arrives in. Our aluminium is UK recycled, with a fully measured COâ‚‚ figure for every kilogram we produce, thanks to Hydro UK's advanced manufacturing facility. Packaging and components are also UK recycled and UK sourced.

People believe we no longer manufacture here in the UK. At NKT, we are doing our part to change that.

Slideguide is fully UK produced, supporting British jobs for British people. Put your trust in Slideguide. Let it help you work smarter and, in turn, help others bring manufacturing home.

Thanks again,
